Meet Kym Canter founder of House of Fluff.

Why did Kym Canter decided to sell all her fur coats to create House Of Fluff ? We had a chance to chat with the founder and CEO of one of today’s hottest faux fur brands currently available at Saks 5th avenue New-York and on HOF’s website.

What made you decide to start your own faux fur brand ?

The idea for the brand was born out of necessity. Like many women, I no longer felt comfortable or chic wearing real fur but could not find a luxurious and well crafted enough faux fur alternative. I have been in the fashion industry for over 20 years, first as a magazine editor, then as a stylist and most recently as a creative director at a luxury brand, I saw this as my chance to make a real difference. I sold all 26 of my own fur coats and vowed to create a brand that would not harm animals or the planet.

What is your source of inspiration ?

I find inspiration everywhere, much of this inspiration comes from re -creating improved versions of iconic vintage styles. Our design director Alex Dymek and I strive to make the ultimate cruelty free biker jacket or leopard car coat or pea coat. For us it’s all about making cool modern alternatives so there is no need to harm animals and the planet. We don't care about trends we want to create modern luxury outerwear that our customers will want to wear for may years to come.

There has been a growing interest in faux fur in recent years even in the luxury market. How would you explain this success ?

I believe we all share an increasing responsibility to take care of our planet and all that inhabit it. Finally the awareness of these issues is going main stream aided by a new group of millenial customers that do not think cruelty is in Vogue. There have also been great advancements in the actual faux fur textile, as more designers and brands like mine craft these fabrics into luxury alternatives to real fur, the more consumers, aided by stores and cities and maybe even countries will support these products.

I am sure you can not ignore that defamatory campaign against faux fur created by the fur lobby. Any comment ?

The fur lobby must be drinking the same cool aid as Donald Trump! They both seem to ignore the real facts and attempt to create their own fake truths. I hope all of us in the faux fur industry can ban together and share the many ways our products are more ethical for animals and the planet than real fur.

The scrappies !

"We are an earth friendly company we strive to be zero waste. We use only recycled plastic and make all our products locally in NYC at a fair trade factory. We started reusing all the scraps left over form the making of our coats"

Talking about responsible practices. What is the concept behind the scrappies ? they are so cute !

We are an earth friendly company we strive to be zero waste. We use only recycled plastic and make all our products locally in NYC at a fair trade factory. We started reusing all the scraps left over form the making of our coats and crafting them into plush collectibles we call Scrappy's, they are pretty cute and they all have names!
