New York City is Faux Fur's hot spot

New York City has become one of the most vibrant place for faux fur, a true permanent showcase for the faux fur trend with several successful fashion labels having opened recently. While New York City is looking at proposed legislation that would ban the sale of animal-based furs, it is the right time to review our favourite fluffy brands based in the big apple.

House of Fluff

Founded by Kym Kanter, HOF’s faux furs are not just fun & chic, they also have a beautiful story attached to them : in 2017, kym decided to sell all her furs - more than 20 coats, to create her own faux fur brand as she felt wearing animal-based furs was no longer in line with her personal ethics. She is now working with Alex Dymek, a former design director for J. Mendel (animal fur brand) and the brand has been worn by A listers such as Jane Fonda and Oprah Winfrey. Kym and Alex both have a strong commitment to sustainability ; they source the more responsibly produced faux fur, work with local communities and have a line of fun creatures - the fluffies, made with scraps left from the faux fur coats so nothing goes to waste.

Maison Atia

Maison Atia’s mantra is “unexpected luxury”. Particular attention is given to artisanal work and finishing touches for a final result of great elegance. Chloé Mendel is the sixth generation family member of the house of Mendel (animal fur brand). She aims to continue that tradition of fine quality and craftmanship, designing each piece like a stand alone work of art. Her partner in crime, Gustave Maisonrouge, started his career at Hermes as a fragrance specialist before he joined the faux fur family.
